The parts of Makueni and Kajiado Counties where we operate are generally dry and faced with acute perennial water shortages. This has a direct bearing on socio-economic development of the area and its people. The major challenges facing the water sector in the county include long distance to water sources, high cost of water, poor governance of existing water sources, water scarcity, unimproved water sources, unsuitable water quality for human consumption as well as human-wildlife conflict over water resources.

To help in addressing the above challenges, We together with our partners formed the water and sanitation theme that strives to support communities to have safe and clean environment and hygienic facilities. To this end, we have implemented both water and sanitation projects with the aim of improving access to clean water sources and safe sanitation facilities. The projects focus on drilling boreholes as well as extending and repairing the water pipelines and construction of latrines.

The organization also supplies hand washing kits to the communities. By extension, EDCA hopes that it can support hygiene and primary health as well as climate change mitigation through these projects.
